- WILPC: Henry Holst – Frierson School will be having a block party on March 22 from 11:30. The event will be picnic style, bring your own chairs. They have will games.
New Business:
Mayor to complete State Ethics survey which is just a rooster of Town Council members.
Following in the progressive footsteps of the Town of Rockville, a new State Ordinance will soon be implemented that will allow suburban home dwellers to own up to 5 chickens or quails per home for the purpose of eggs.
Chris Wannamaker from the County has let the Mayor know that Comcast would like to run new fiber optic lines underground in the Town. Currently Comcast is only servicing a certain portion of the area. Town to allow an encroachment permit for the installation. Frank Thornhill asks if the service will now be available to all of Rockland? At this time the details are not clear.
Town Council Members must complete Statement of Economic Interest by the end of March.
Henry Holst attended the John Island overpass meeting and commented that the plan will have all the traffic coming and going from the area right in front of Gilligans. Should be done in 36 months.
Old Business:
Roads -Rockland was restructured by the County. Using a specialized aggregate layer that compacted and then added dirt that was not mixed correctly and properly crowned, so now the road is flat and full of potholes. It is an impermeable layer that will not allow water through. Mayor has contacted the County and hopes to meet with their representative and John Smoak to show the dysfunctional nature of the road now. The hope is that the current material can be reworked with a motor grader for a temporary fix. Question remains does the County have any liability to fix the problem? Town cannot afford the cost of the amount of materials that would be needed to fix the road as is. A possible solution might be to have bulldozers carve up the existing material, grind all of that up into a workable medium and then reform. The contractor who originally built the road has noted that they constructed the road per County plans.
Charleston Green working on the quote for SYC Rd. Estimated just a few thousand.
