- WILPC: Henry Holst- Pending very large docks and bulkhead proposal on Bess Creek near Pecanetta Rd was discussed at recent WILP meeting. Mayor mentions that at a separate DES meeting, himself and other residents expressed concerns about that topic, as the docks will be ridiculously large and inappropriate. One of the structures will be blocking another property owner’s property line and the other was blocking an entire navigable waterway. DES to follow up with nearby residents.
Johns Island development was also discussed. Whitney Lakes area has 18 undeveloped acres remaining. There is a new proposal pending for 108 more units to be built there. Proposed 250 units near Fenwick supposedly not moving forward. A much needed 2-year moratorium on building will be discussed at upcoming meeting.
Angel Oak reception area/welcome center permit was approved as well as viewing platforms and parking lot upgrades. It is a Low Country Land Trust project. 400,00 people visit the tree each year.
Next meeting 2/12 and the County will be in attendance to discuss road/development issues on Johns Island.
Charleston County Sheriff’s office has a new app!
New Business:
Mayor filed the Town’s annual zero Debt Report.
Old Business:
Council members were reminded to complete their Statement of Economic Interests by the February meeting in order to be sworn in for the new term.
No new information on Linton issue.
Roads – CDH to address SIYC Road. Charleston Green recently graded the Yacht Club parking lot.
Tree trimming – Mayor motions accept the Magdalena (contractor) estimate for $5,000 to remove dead limbs from the Town’s oak trees, pending receipt of his insurance certificate.
Historic Preservation Ordinance is still waiting the Planning Committee’s comment/approval. Mayor notes that the ordinance may impose new restrictions on homeowners who might be unaware of the changes and parameters of historic homes particularly those that are outside of the historic district. Council members to spread the word regarding this issue. Federal law will supersede the ordinance, a notable example would be a necessary wheelchair ramp.
Mayor Motions to adjourn at 7:30, seconded by Tammy Bazzle.
