- WILPC: Henry Holst – Teachers at Edith L. Frierson Elementary donated funds to purchase 6 new benches for the students to utilize outside during breaks.
Old Business:
Planning Committee has yet to execute Comprehensive Plan for the Town. The County has recently reminded the Town, therefore the Mayor will communicate to Planning’s Chair Mr. Folk the need to meet and update the Comprehensive Plan.
Short Term Rental rules still need to be considered. The Town seeks to find balance between fending off developers who may attempt to come in and rent homes all year long and making allowances for those families who currently rent their homes as a necessary source of income. Town needs to design an Ordinance, therefore the Mayor suggests that Council ponder the issue and make suggestions at the next meeting.
Mayor to forward website edits to Town Clerk.
Council and Committee members must complete training – 6 hours training the first year and 3 hours per year after. THIS IS REQUIRED.
New Business:
Sea Island Yacht Club Road street sign is missing. Mayor asks Henry Holst to obtain a quote from Fast Signs.
The Mayor/Council discussed potential development near Cherry Point Road and the need to help landowners with conservation efforts in the future.
American Rescue Plan passed by Biden Administration disburses funds to all Municipalities for COVID Relief if needed. The Town of Rockville would potentially receive $67,500 however the Town would have to show that COVID caused economic hardship. With the absence of employees and infrastructure, the Town truly did not have any COVID related expenses. The Town could take the funds and collect interest on those funds for 4 years, however it is unlikely that it is worth it as the Town would have to report on those funds for those 4 years and then return the principal back to the State, which would be quite burdensome. Mayor recommends that the Town turn down the funds and followed up with a motion to do so. Motion was seconded by Zach Nelson. Unanimously approved.
Mayor would like Council to consider the reduction of DRB from 5 to 3 members. The Town has had a difficult time finding people to serve on these Committees. Will schedule an Executive Meeting to discuss further.
Many thanks to Zach Nelson for 14 years of service as this will be his last meeting. Zach has decided to retire from Mayor Council.
Henry Holst mentions that Rockland and South Rockland need attention as soon as possible. There are 2 deep ruts.
Rhett Hanckel has been paid for his road maintenance.
