MAYOR / COUNCIL REPORTS:
Search for a new Code Enforcement officer is ongoing. Town does not want the position to fall into the hands of the County permanently, but a police officer could be used in a pinch if needed.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
- Planning: No one reporting.
- BZA: No one reporting.
- Code Enforcement: No one reporting
- DRB: No one reporting
- WILPC: Henry Holst – County polled residents about proposed skiing facility on the Leadenwah. Most residents are opposed. Plan would include multiple docks and ramps, 10 slips and large pier head. Allowing such endeavor would open the door to future commercial development. Meeting regarding this issue November 22.
Chili Cook-off will be in January. All proceeds go to Community Center.
Old Business:
Roads: Rockland needs maintenance/crowning again since last rain per Frank Thornhill. Does not shed water well. SIYC and Grace Chapel are being addressed by CDH. Overall roads are better but will need constant attention and material. From the Ball Residence to Linton’s, to Yacht Club, the tide came over the road. This section of the road will need to be built up which will be very costly. Potentially make repairs over time? Whit Smith asked about raising the parking area at the Yacht Club to help the issue? Yacht Club has improved this section somewhat recently. Mayor notes that road may need to come up 18 inches. Chip Linton comments that he has added material to his yard, which has helped and suggests the Town should consider hiring a hydrologist to study the most effective way to fix all of the roads issues. Mayor comments that drainage will also need to be improved. Town and Yacht could work together to get a survey. Frank Thornhill points out that there should be a comprehensive plan so that one person’s effort does not affect another property owner’s elevation. Immediate plan will be to continue to add material.
New Business:
Huge water oak fell on Grace Chapel Road, blocking the road. Charleston Green and CDH surveyed the scene but were unable to mobilize fast enough. The Fire Department came and cut up the tree over the following 2 days assisted by Martinez Tree Company. Property owner had a private group finish the clean-up.
